U.G. DEPARTMENT OF BOTANY

The department of BOTANY was established in 2003, is one of the leading departments of Alva’s College .It has started with 53 students with two curricula combination of Biotechnology, Chemistry & Botany (BCB), Microbiology, Chemistry & Botany (MBB). At present there are three curricula combination 

Ø Chemistry, Botany, Zoology (CBZ)
Ø Biotechnology, Chemistry & Botany (BCB)

Ø Microbiology, Chemistry & Botany (MBB)


Students strength has increased up to 155. The department is well equipped with spacious laboratories; Herbarium and museum. At present four experienced faculty members are supporting and guiding the students.
                          The department has long record of academic excellence and we uphold this reputation The department also encourages the staff and students to undertake the Research project works and participate in conferences and Intercollegiate Competitions .It also organizes activities like student seminars, Student projects, guest lectures, Workshops, Plant a week, certificate course, field trip, study tour, visit to various research institutions, Extensional program and also provide  Industrial interphase. The department also supports and guides the students for their future career by conducting career guidance programmes regularly. Department also provide consultancy services on Plantation crop diseases to the community in the name of “Sasyasanjeevini”. The department has initiated with a special yearly Environmental awareness program on “Nagabanas” of different panchayaths of Dakshina Kannada District.


OBJECTIVES OF THE DEPARTMENT


Ø To shape behavior, conduct self confident and build themselves for a better future life.
Ø Acquisition of knowledge in plant science and herbal wealth to the global challenges.
Ø To create awareness on conservation of nature.
Ø To provide a social and efficient person to the society.
Ø Inculcate Research attitude among the students.
